Have you ever heard of a famous artist Vincent Van Gogh?? While this week for reading we were learning about the life of Van Gogh and his many artwork. I learned so much from this activity such as, Van Gogh's artwork wasn't valued that much when he was alive but 100 years later, a new museum was opened in honour of Vincent Van Goug in 1993 in Amsterdam where his artwork is displayed.

I think the story is about kids in a space that is living on a space ship with robots, adults and their principal, I think they are also looking for a new planet to live on because probably a dangerous plague spread across planet earth. How to be an Upstander

Today I am going to write about how to be an Upstander. What is an Upstander, you ask? An Upstander is about a person moving from being silent to taking action. Bystanders contribute to the problem. Upstanders stops the problem. So which one are you a Upstander or a Bystander?

Number one, Have courage to be an Upstander. It takes a lot of courage to be an Upstander. Upstanders are kids who prevent and stop the bullying they see, or comes to the aid of another kid who is being bullied by showing them kindness. Moving from being an Bystander to a Upstander doesn't just happen overnight, it takes time and it takes commit. It can start by becoming more aware of the bullying behaviour and how it affects the victim’s life. Upstanders are able to see the pain the victim is feeling and takes action.

What’s the difference between a Bystander and a Upstander? A bystander is someone that does not speak up or act to prevent problems from happening but contributes to it. But an Upstander takes action when they see something that is not right and takes charge by standing up to the problem.

How does being an upstander make a difference? When Upstanders speak out and their opinions are heard they will make a difference in their community’s and in the world. We all should be just like Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela who made a change in the world by standing up and making their voices heard and not being scared to stand up for what they believe in.

So will you be a Upstander or a Bystander? I hoped you learned something from my writing on how to be an Upstander and making your voice and opinion heard.
