My week of school

Monday:
On Monday the 28th of May the Year 7 and 8's gathered together in the Street for the usual morning assembly. This week is special because it's Samoan Language week so the Year 7 and 8 girls decided to put together a item for our school assembly on Friday. When it was Lunch-time all the girls that volunteered to participate came up with a dance to match our song Lau Samoa.
Tuesday:
Tuesday is the day the Year 8's go down to Tamaki College for TECH. When we went down to Tamaki College my group, Rua, had to go to Music. Some things we did while in Music room was we got the opportunity to learn how to play Guitar and Piano.

What is a function and for loop? (Extension)

Today for Extension the year 7's and year 8's had to write a blog post about what a function and what a for loop is. What is a function? A function is a group of commands put together to make one specific command when coding, for example when you do the moves for the Macarena it repeats itself over and over that's just like using a function. What is a For loop? A for loop is a command that can help you repeat commands over and over.

Digital Nations 2030 Trip

Guess what on Monday the 19th of February the year 8 and 7 extension group went to a Hotel in Auckland for a very important event called Digital Nations 2030.

When we arrived at out destination we were welcomed by our close friend Zoe from OMG Tech who showed us to a room filled with computers, 3D printers and Robots. The first place that I went to with my group was the Robot stand. We had to code onto a computer and then upload into the robot so that when we press the play button the robot will do what the code says. The last stand we went to was Code Avengers. All we had to do was get through the 5 levels to the last spinning wheel that you spin to get a prize. The prize that I got was two stickers.

Overall I really enjoyed my time at the Digital Nation 2030. It has helped me improve my critical thinking about coding and taught me how to code a robot. I hope in the future some other lucky extension students will get the chance to go on this amazing event like we did.

My first week of School

It was time to go back to school and my first two days back was a blast!! My home room is Room 3
and my teacher is Mrs Tele’a, but unfortunately she had to look after her baby so we have two
georgeous teachers Mrs Sio and Mrs Salu filling in
for her for the first two terms of school.

The first day back from school me and the other prefects had to get ready for the first school
assembly as the new leaders of 2018. The first time standing up there in front of the school
was both scary and exciting. Once the school assembly was finished the Year 8’s went back
to the Team 5 block to welcome the Year 7’s.

The second day back, everybody just stayed in their home class and learned about the
Treaty of waitangi. Once we were finished with the Treaty of Waitangi our class made a Treaty or Rules
to care for our Classroom.

One thing that I learned this week was how to do many sort of artwork and I also learned some of my
classmates names. Some things I want to archive next week is to be a good role model and to do good
both in Maths and Reading.

What have you been doing on Boxing Day

For today's post I would like to wish my little cousin Anna Maria a happy birthday. I hope you had fun on your special day with your family.

Now how was your boxing day? My boxing day was so fun, my family had a Barbeque, played some sports outside which made me very happy. Some things that I hope I will do these school hoildays is go to the beach, go to the movies and spend time families.

Extension Experience this year

This year was my very first year of been in Extension and I have had a blast with Mrs Langitupu and the Year 8's and 7's. This experience of being in Extension has helped me improve more on my coding and helped me understand more about Scratch. My advise for the Year 6's who are going to be in Extension next year is to always try your best and always pay attention of what is happening. I would like to say thank you to Mrs Langitupu and Zoey from OMGT for helping me throughout the year.


One thing that I enjoyed about being in Extension was doing new tasks for a new term. I also really enjoyed working together with my friends and finding solutions for our problems throughout the year. My highlights for extension was when we were filming for our school Maniakalani Film Festival which was a lot of fun. I hope that I'm in Extension next year, Thank you Mrs Langitupu for a great experience this year.

Recount Writting

Did you watch the Tonga vs Kiwis game at Hamilton last week on Saturday? It seemed the Tonga team was the favourites to win the game as we saw a sea of red around the Stadium. In the first half the Kiwis was leading by 16-2, but that all changed in the second half where the Tonga team made a strong comeback by scoring 4 quick tries to secure they win, creating a great surprise to everyone. The Tonga team now progress through to the quarter-finals against Lebanon in Christchurch this Saturday while the Kiwis will face Fiji in Wellington. The team’s that I want to win the Rugby League cup is Kiwis or Toa Samoa.

Immerson Assembly

Term 4 has started and at the conor of Glen Innes Point England school were having their Immerson Assembly to start of the new term. Our new Theme for this term was Musical Madness!

To kick of the Assembly we had a surprise Performance by Mr Burt, Mrs Nua, Mr Sommerville, Mr J and Mr Wise man singing their new song called Musical Madness Saves the Day. Each teacher had an instrument to play, Mr J had his little trumpet, Mr Burt had his guitar Mrs Nua had a Tambourine,  Mr Wise man was on the Bass and Mr Sommerville was rocking it out on the drums.

The next performance was Team 1. In their performance they were playing cards while different kind of music were playing in the playground and they also showed different emotions towards the music. For Team 2 Miss Gaston was the lead singer who was playing the ukulele and singing the song Lion sleeps Tonight, while different teachers came and joined her. The first teacher was Miss Peck who was playing a Castanet, Mrs Tomahai came on stage playing a Xylophone and the last teacher to join was Miss Nalder who was playing the bongos.


Team 3 was next they played a movie where they lip sync songs like: Sorry, Work, Cake by the ocean, Chandeliar, and many more and they were also doing songs in real life. Team 4 did something similar but they were doing they songs in the car like Carpool Karoke, and at the end of the movie it said Make car rides more fun. Team 5 was the last to preform they performance was having a family movie night while watching lion king while differnt songs played in the playground like: Let it go, Roar and many more. My favourite part about team 5 item was when Let it go was finish playing Mrs Tele'a said: "Don't let the baby go" which made everyone laugh.

 My top 3 team's was Team 3, 4 and 5 because they had creative movies and performance and made me laugh and made me have a good time.

What is MMP?

Have you ever wondered what MMP means? While now you got the answer,MMP actually stands for:  Mixed Member Proportional.

In New Zealand, we vote using the MMP voting system and each voter gets two votes, one vote is for a Party and the other one is for a candidate, but only the people that have New Zealand citizenship and people that doesn’t have any criminal sentences can vote.

There are 120 seats in the Parliament, and each party needs the majority of 61 or more to win, right now National is in the lead with 58 seats while Labour has 45 seats. In New Zealand right now New zealand First has a very big decision to make about who to work with National or Labour?

So in New Zealand right now the leader of New Zealand first is talking to each leader of Labour and National to see what their Policies are and what their plans are for New Zealdn.So what do YOU think should Winston Peters(Leader of New Zealand First) work with Labour or National?

My Experience of Manaiakalani Film Festival

As Room 3 were preparing to film for the Manaiakalani Film Festival, which was held every year since 2008.But before we could film we had to come up with some idea's that we thought might go great with The Film Festival. At the end of class we had come up with three thrilling idea's for Manaiakalani Film Festival.

When my group started filming I found learning and remembering my lines difficult and also trying not to laugh when someone said something humorous really challenging, but one thing that I found good was that my group actually finished filming in only 1 HOUR! and once our group watched the film our Class Room filled with laughter because the film was so humerous. I am really looking forward to seeing Room 3's movies on the big screen and I Guarantee our movie is the BEST!!

My Trip to Samoa!!

On August the 5th me and my mum: Lautifa, went to Samoa for a family funeral. 

I was really excited to see my family again but at the same time 

I was really sad that my Great Grandpa passed away. 

When I stepped at outside the Virgin Australia aircraft I instlanty knew that the 

air in Samoa was going to be really hot. I looked at the building in front of me that 

was called Faleolo International Airport which was one of the most busiest building 

in all of Samoa. Once all of the passengers arrived in the building to check in we 

were greeted by the sound of traditional Samoan music played by 4 men. 

As passengers walked passed them they threw $20 or $10 in front of them like donation, 

once we passed Security, bag pick up and passport check we arrived 

outside to where we were greeted by the happy faces of my family.

After a round of hugs and kisses we scrambled in our family van which sped through

the night as I admired the fale's (houses) pass by, and at that same time

I was really happy to be back in my home country. On Sunday morning we all got ready to 

go to Savaii we the other half of my family lived, when we arrived at the Wharf we got our tickets

and waited for Lady Samoa II Ship to arrive. The boat arrived in 10 miuntes and everybody

boarded the ship which glided smoothly across the ocean, after 15 miuntes of looking outside 

the window I fell into a deep sleep. When we arrived in Savaii and got off the boat we sped off

to our house in Vaisaulu, once we arrived we saw that no one was at home because they

were all off at Church, so we waited and waited.

When my family arrived they all got changed and had dinner togther and talked about how if everthing was okay. When we had to leave Samoa was really sad that I had to leave my family back again and come back, but before we went through the gates and grandma told me,"Even if don't live in Samoa, always remember that Samoa is your home and you are a true Samoan girl" I hugged her tight and said Goodbye, but now I will always know where I came from I will always be a true island girl!!

Education Speech

Why is Education so important in our lives?. Education plays a very important role in our lives and for everybody that goes through life. Getting a proper education is very important, it helps us to have a successful and good life. It support’s the feeling of physical,mental, and social well being for a better life. It helps a person to improve his/her’s critical thinking at school or anywhere on the planet. It provides us lots of confidence by increasing our knowledge each day, and the more knowledge we get, we grow and develop more in life. So my question for you is do you want your education to be successful and free?

Now that's thinking

This term our topic is called:Now that’s thinking. Our topic is all about Technology and making idea’s that can help our school or environment.

We started our immersion assembly with Team 1 that is learning this Term making kites, but for Team 2 and team 3 they all had the same idea as Team 1. So for this term, Team 1,2 and 3 are making kites and learning about matariki.

For Team 4, they will be learning about different technology and how they can solve problems. Last but not least Team 5 is learning about Technology and how we can help the school get better.

So for this Term our school inquiry is: Now that’s thinking.

My special place around the community is my house,  some people around the world that love they house sometimes says: There’s no place like home, and those people are right there is no place like home, I love my house very much because when my family comes to New Zealand over the Christmas holidays like from Samoa, Australia or even from France we would always treasure those moments with each other in my house. Even though my house may seem old and ugly to some people, I don’t care what they say because I love my house just the way it is.

Do you love your house? Taking care of your house is the best thing to do, because just imagine if you didn’t care for your house and made it messy you would probably get kicked out. Where would you live? Some things people do to love their house is by cleaning it, wash the dishes or maybe make the house look even better by adding some paint or decorations. Maybe starting today make yourself a challenge to clean your house, wash the dishes or help your parents to pay the housing bill’s. This would be the best way to show to your friends or family that you do care about your house.

So if you don’t want to be kicked out of your house and you love your house, then my advise would be to take care of your house by cleaning it, make every room look neat and tidy, and that’s how you show aroha to your house. That’s why I am very lucky to have a nice and cozy house. Do you feel lucky you have a house?

Today our class is taking a writing test and the topic that we are going to write about is what is a special place in our community that is special to us.

One reason that I love about my house is because whenever I’m in my house I always feel safe. In my house it’s just Me,Mum,Dad, and Uncle, but if I go to my house in Samoa the house is packed with kids and adults and it’s always full of noise. I love my house!!!

My second reason that I love about my house is that  whenever my cousins come over we would always ride on our bikes, play basketball, touch and at the end we would all gather together and watch a movie. Some of my cousins that come over to my house are: Glennes, Quasia, Marilyn, Grace, P.K, Loto, Sara, PJ, and Tal.

My last reason why I love my house is that whenever my family from different countries  come over we would always treasure those memories in my house, and I always love cleaning my house. My house is my special place!!
